by Michael Chrichton

 

 

Amazing thriller.  This was the best tool to bring me up to speed on NANOTECHNOLOGY and see a futuristic perspective on the power of consequences of such a technology.  Each time I am engaged on a conversation on nanotechnology, I can't but remember this book.

This was my first introduction to Dan Brown and the thrill of listening to this book led me to reading all his other books. 

 

SECRET of THE WIDOW's SON

by David Shugarts

 

This book was fascinating as it talks about the real historical facts that are mentionned in Dan Brown's books.  It also speculate as to what the next book is based on clues that Dan Brown left on the cover of his previous books.

TUESDAY WITH MORRIE

THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN

By Mitch Albom

 

 

Tuesday with Morrie left me inspired with the lessons of the book.  This led me to the subsequent book from Albom, the five people you meet in haven.  This second book is quite different and requires stretching your mind beyond reality.  I liked Tuesday with Morrie a lot more than the second one.

BEING A PARENT

 

 As Audrey is growing, I am trying to stay ahead of her and learn how to best help her become a fantastic adult.

 

 

 

Recommended by a dear friend with soon-to-be adult children, these two books were fun to read, filled with humor and many recipes to deal with the challenging teanage years.

This book was powerful in helping me reset the way I look at statistics.  I learned some interesting insights on relationship of incentives and performance (something useful to manage teams).

I loved the first three chapters because of the revolutionary concepts presented.  The world is changing and it shows how essential it will be for us to stay on top of technology to stay successful.

THE TIPPING POINT

BLINK

BY Malcolm Gladwell

 

 

 

Fascinating insights on how little things make big events happen.  Blink talks about the fact that the right answers come to mind in a split of second but  that our reason requires to validate our answers through lenghthy processes.  I loved these two books.

This book is so useful to me each time I need to call someone cold and I am nervous about making the deal.  I read the opening chapter and I am pumped up to make the call.

Excellent book for sharpening negotiations skills.  I read this one in one hour.

GOOD TO GREAT

by Jim Collins

 

Excellent book that shows what the true recipes are for long term success.  This book did show how some of the decisions made for immediate success (such as the ones taken in a start up environment) often compromise longeviety of the entreprise.  It was a a fascinating listening.

HOW TO WORK A ROOM

by Susane RoAne

 

This book helped becoming more efficient at networking and developing an efficient system to track who is who and where I picked up business cards from someone. This is fast reading.

I read this one with the one just above.  It was a great complement to the other book and very practical.

PERMISSION MARKETING

by Seth Godin

 

 

I read this book from a management and not marketing perspective and found that many of the principles tought in this book applied well to day-to-day interactions as I think that our lives are to continuously make a difference in people's life, meaning the need to find a common platform of understanding from which to work.

My favorite of all time.  Profoundly changed me.  I bought more than 12 copies of this book for friends as I found the content so profound.  A book to keep for ever.

Mattie Stepanek was a hero for me.  He knewthat he would die very young but made the most out of his 11 years of life.  His wisdom was incredible.  I bought everything that this younf boy published (books and CD's).

Very powerful and mysterious book.  I found it inspiring but probably missed a lot of the hidden message.
