Happy Heavenly Birthday To MC Breed!

Born on June 12, 1971, in Flint, Michigan, MC Breed made his mark on hip hop with unforgettable tracks like “Ain’t No Future in Yo Frontin'” and “Gotta Get Mine” featuring 2Pac. Known for blending Midwestern grit with West Coast flair, Breed carved out a unique space for himself in the rap game during the early ‘90s.

He first emerged in 1991 alongside the rap group DFC with the release of MC Breed & DFC on the independent label SDEG Records. The following year, he struck out on his own with his solo debut 20 Below, and kept the momentum going with 1993’s The New Breed.

Though he never fully broke into the mainstream, MC Breed built a solid discography over the years. His most commercially successful release was 1994’s Funkafied, which reached No. 106 on the Billboard 200.

Tragically, Breed’s life was cut short in 2008. On September 5 of that year, he collapsed while playing a pickup basketball game and was hospitalized with kidney failure. Despite efforts to recover, he passed away in his sleep on November 22 while staying at a friend’s home in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Before his untimely passing, Breed had been working on a new album and had reconnected with longtime collaborators including The D.O.C., Spice 1, and Too Short. Today, he would have been 45 years old. His contributions to the culture continue to resonate with fans and fellow artists alike.
