Chris Brown has been denied bail in the United Kingdom following his arrest in connection with a 2023 nightclub assault. The R&B singer was taken into custody last week and formally charged with grievous bodily harm with intent before appearing in court on Friday, May 16.
During the hearing, the prosecution strongly opposed bail, and the judge ultimately sided with them, ordering Brown to remain in custody. The incident, which allegedly occurred at Tape nightclub in London, was reportedly caught on CCTV and described by prosecutors as “extremely serious.”
Brown, who appeared in court only to confirm his name and his temporary address at The Lowry Hotel—where he was arrested—will remain jailed until his next hearing on June 13.
The arrest raises uncertainty around his Breezy Bowl Tour, which is scheduled to begin just two days later on June 15. No official statement has been made by Brown or his team regarding how his legal troubles may impact the tour’s schedule.
The alleged victim, music producer Abe Diaw, previously filed a civil lawsuit against Brown, accusing him of causing “severe and lasting injuries” after allegedly striking him over the head with a tequila bottle and stomping on him while he was unconscious. Diaw also claimed Brown attempted to discredit him by spreading false rumors in the aftermath.
At the time of the incident, Brown reportedly left the UK before police could question him. He was later permitted entry into the country again in 2020 after a decade-long ban stemming from his 2009 assault conviction involving pop star Rihanna. The decision to lift the travel ban, made by then–Home Secretary Priti Patel, was never publicly explained.
As the situation unfolds, questions remain not only about Brown’s legal fate but also about whether the Breezy Bowl Tour will proceed as planned.
