New Doc Claims Wendy Williams Was Relocated to Memory Care After Birthday Drinks on Rooftop

Here we go—another page in the never-ending Wendy Williams saga. Okay, so a newly released documentary is shedding fresh light on the challenges Williams is facing. The documentary claims a rooftop birthday celebration may have triggered a major shift in her care.

Get this, the ID channel’s hour-long special, Trapped: What Is Happening to Wendy Williams?, aired on May 19 and dives deep into the complexities of the 60-year-old icon’s ongoing struggle with sobriety and the court-appointed guardianship overseeing her life. The doc alleges that Williams, who now resides in an assisted living facility in New York City, was moved to a stricter memory care unit after a rooftop incident involving alcohol.

“Wendy was on the third floor in this care unit, where she has access to the hallways, to the elevators,” journalist Diane Dimond explains in the film. “And on her birthday, she decided to get in the elevator and see where she could go. Well, it went all the way up to the rooftop bar, and it being her birthday, she ordered a drink, and then another one, and another. Who knows how many, but she will admit to you that she got drunk, she had a relapse.”

According to the documentary, the alleged incident led to her being transferred to a more controlled setting on another floor, one with round-the-clock monitoring and limited freedom of movement.

These interesting revelations parallel Williams’ comments earlier this year during a phone-in appearance on The View in March. She acknowledged celebrating her 60th birthday over the summer but assured viewers that she was no longer drinking. “My relationship with substances is fine and wonderful,” she said during the call. “I’m easily going on with my life, alcohol-free.”
