Aziz Ansari is not playing when it comes to his feature directorial debut. The comedian turned director is stepping into the director’s chair with Good Fortune, his first feature film behind the camera, and he is not coming alone. The upcoming Lionsgate comedy features an eclectic cast that includes Keanu Reeves, Keke Palmer, Seth Rogen and Sandra Oh, delivering a fresh mix of heart and humor with a cosmic twist.
In the hilarious teaser trailer, Keanu Reeves takes on the role of Gabriel, a sweet but wildly unqualified guardian angel who dreams of advancing to more serious celestial work. The problem is, his heavenly bosses are not convinced he is ready for the big leagues. That does not stop Gabriel from trying to prove himself by stepping into the life of Ansari’s character, a down-on-his-luck gig worker struggling to catch a break.
Set to the infectious disco anthem “Do You Wanna Funk” by Sylvester, the trailer offers a glimpse of the film’s lighthearted chaos and fast-paced comedy, while teasing the unexpected ways Gabriel’s interference might shake up more than one life.
The official synopsis lays it out: In Good Fortune, a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy venture capitalist.
Seth Rogen brings his signature flair to the role of the high-powered investor while Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh add more star power to the ensemble cast. With Ansari leading both in front of and behind the camera, the film promises sharp comedic timing and fresh storytelling energy.
Ansari teams up once again with longtime creative collaborator Alan Yang on production. They are joined by Anthony Katagas, with executive producers Aniz Adam Ansari, Jonathan McCoy, Christopher Woodrow, and Connor DiGregorio rounding out the powerhouse team.
Good Fortune is shaping up to be a genre-bending comedy with brains, heart, and a funky beat. Keep an eye out for more as this cosmic clash of class, fate, and comedy gets closer to its theatrical debut.
